Final tips and pointers

You may find that after a few songs, the kids are dancing a little less. We recommend our version of a balloon drop. Fill some large trash bags with non-helium balloons. If the party slows down a bit, unload these in the middle of the room for some immediate energy. The picture to the right shows the aftermath of our balloon drop.

Music choice will very much depend on the exact age and interest of the birthday child. We have found that classic disco music strikes a chord with children, and Kids Bop has some good kid-friendly version of popular music that can be downloaded. Whatever you choose, make sure you listen to each song all the way though for appropriateness.

Invitations:

Decorations:

	Balloons Preferably metallic. We used a combination of Onxy Black, Silver Metallic and Purple Metallic to compliment our decor. We purchased ours at Oriental Trading, but similar balloons are likely available at your local party store, which is sometimes a better option if you plan to have any helium filled.
	Metallic Finge Curtains These will turn any ordinary room into an instant disco. There is no need to cover every square inch of the walls; a few well-placed curtains will create the required atmosphere. Available at Oriental Trading.
	Disco ball scene setters We placed one of these between the metallic curtains for an added touch. Available at Oriental Trading.
	Dangling Star Swirls We dotted the ceiling with purple and silver versions of these party favorites. Not only did they look great in themselves, they also added additional sparkle when the disco ball was in action. Available at Oriental Trading.
	Black Lights These come in all different shapes and sizes. We used simple incandescent black lights, but for a better effect, go for the flourescent variety more commonly used in dance clubs.
	Mirror ball or other spinning disco lights Nothing beats the classic mirror ball, but there are an endless variety of disco lights one could chose from. Oriental Trading sells an all-in-one kit that includes a small mirror ball, motor, and colored spot light.
	Fog machine A low-cost fog machine can add another dimension to your dance club atmosphere. Keep an eye out for inexpensive varieties available at retailers around Halloween. Oriental Trading sells one year round.

Activities:

	Face painting No need to hire a professional. Buy a decent kit and limit the options to simple designs. We have found the Klutz face painting book to be both good quality and very helpful for beginners
	Tattoo stickers Always a crowd pleaser for the younger kids. A large selection is available at Oriental Trading
	Nail painting This can be a lot of fun for young girls, but generally only works if you do not have a lot of guests, and you have plenty of time to allow them to dry
	Colored hair spray A great activity, particularly for a slightly older crowd. You may want to get parents' consent before going ahead with this unless you know all of the guest very well. This is best done outside to avoid a messy clean up
	Black light hand stamp or markers We've not been able to find this online, but our local party store sold this and it was a big hit. The kit came with black light markers and a small keychain sized LED black light. We marked the kids hands en route to the club and then had someone check the marks on the way in

Favors:

	Disco ball necklaces The perfect dance party accessory. These can be handed out as prizes during the warm up dances. We purchased these at Oriental Trading
	Tattoo stickers An easy favor bag stuffer and always a crowd pleaser for the younger kids. A large selection is available at Oriental Trading
	Guitar key chains They may not be driving yet, but kids always like to have their own key chains, such as these guitar key chains sold by Oriental Trading
	Guitar pick zipper pulls Kids will enjoy putting these pulls on their backpack or jacket. We found these within the Rock Star accessories on Oriental Trading
	Rock bracelets These fun bracelets, available at Oriental Trading, could be put in the favor bag, or handed out as prizes during the party
